Four decades of digging
Hamburg City Soul is the record shop of Lars Bulnheim — Hamburg-raised soul DJ and collector, digging since the mid-1980s. Back then, finding soul 45s in Germany meant expensive UK sales lists and record shops that carried next to nothing. So in the 1990s Lars did what any obsessive would do: he flew to the United States and went digging where the music was made.
Out of that growing collection came the Shelter Club, the Northern Soul night he co-ran in Hamburg for five years — and a DJ career that has taken him to the big German soul weekenders (Soul Shakers Weekender in Bamberg, Aachen, Hamburg) as well as guest spots in Italy, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, the UK and the USA.

Lars loves his Northern sides as much as 70s and early-80s modern soul, and he likes it funky too. He collects soul music in its original format only — and that is exactly what you find here: original 45s, no represses, no bootlegs.
